Make your loved one a special personalized gift by laser cutting and engraving a wooden keychain to hold every day in his or her hands.

Required Materials

  • Alder wood prefinished (4mm thick)
  • Key ring??

Step One: Graphics

Use a premade template or create your own design. If you create your own design, make sure that the parts are not too narrow, otherwise the keychain will break easily. Give the keychain more stability by connecting the single letters. (Image 1)

On the prefinished wood, it’s possible to achieve a light surface by engraving with low power and high Z-Offset.

Step Two: Laser Process

You will need a piece of prefinished alder wood with a thickness of about 4 mm. You can also use other types of wood, but please note that the parameters must be adjusted accordingly.

Mount the 2-inch lens and place the honeycomb cutting table in the laser machine. Then, put the piece of wood in the laser and, to create a maximum vacuum, cover the surface around the wood with paper or cardboard.

Laser Parameters:

Cutting: Power: 40%; Speed: 0.7%; Frequency: 1000 Hz; Air Assist: ON

Cutting-in: Power: 5%; Speed: 1%; Frequency: 1000 Hz; Air Assist: ON

Engraving white: Power: 18%; Speed: 60%; Frequency: 500 ppi; Air Assist: ON; Z-Offset: 2.00

Engraving dark: Power: 50%; Speed: 60%; Frequency: 500 ppi; Air Assist: ON; Z-Offset: 2.00

Step Three: Finishing

After laser operation, it may be necessary to clean the edges with a dry cloth. Then attach a keychain or a ring. (Image 2)
