Featured Project: Quick-Turnaround Water Taxi

This wrap was done to tweak TV commentator Charles Barkley, who was saying less-than-nice things about the OKC Thunder when they were in the NBA playoffs in 2012.

This featured project comes to us from Brockdodds, a graphic design company in Percell, Oklahoma. This is a water taxi project that the company did for the NBA playoffs in 2012.

“For the Oklahoma City Thunder Water Taxi project for the 2012 playoffs, I was contacted by Bricktown Water Taxi to update the taxi’s look for a visit from Charles Barkley,” says Craig Dodds. “Barkley had been trash talking OKC. The Thunder provided art files that I worked with to add the various graphics you see on the taxi, plus on the OKC zoo boats. The taxi was pulled from the river. In 48 hours, it was painted, vinyl graphics applied, carpet, seat cushions, chairs painted with individual seat cushions, custom top with the Thunder logo sewn on.”

A Roland GX 24 was used to cut the various logos-old school, with multiple colors layered, Dodds says.

“The project was completed over the Labor Day weekend, and it just so happened our large-format printer was down,” Dodds says. “The GX 24 saved the day once again.”

ORACAL 651 was used for logos and general coverage of the boat. Three people completed it start to finish in 40 hours.
