Effective promotional products are typically those that have a function – think flash drives or luggage tags – but if these items don’t have the visual appeal that customers demand, the likelihood of someone picking them up in the first place is closer to none. Paying attention to design trends is essential for those producing a product that stands out and gets the word out. This year, there are a few new looks that are jumping out into the promotional products market including:

  • The use of bold and unconventional color choices – for example: converting a full-color photo to a duo-tone image using two bright complementary colors for a pop-art effect.
  • Color gradients – Instagram’s logo is a great example. You can take an easily recognized design element and fill it with a color gradient instead of a solid color to give it more interest. 
  • The combination of bold and hand-written type fonts. A bold type font can be used to create a photo-mask or a word-mark that can be layered with a lighter, serif font.
