The Basics Behind How CorelDRAW Works

Leave the math to your computer.

CorelDRAW is a vector-based method for creating images. Instead of pixels, like in Corel PhotoPaint, we have little more than lines and outlines, each of which are considered independent objects that can be easily manipulated. The lines appear and are manipulated by way of math formulas that are governed by nodes that we place, move around, and adjust to create the desired image.

Note: the math is the computer’s business, not ours, leaving us to focus on what we are drawing. Each line and outline can be assigned a color and thickness, etc., and the interior space of each outline can be filled with simple or complex color. These lines and outlines are known as vectors, referring to the geometry of their construction.
