Set Up a System for Organizing Orders

Awards retailer Bob Hagel shares his secrets for staying on top of the ball.

We use a specific shelf to store all orders and use color-coded envelopes indicating which production equipment will be used: blue is glass; green, full-color UV print; yellow, laser; and red indicates graphic design work needed for outside production such as cast metal plaques. Products and parts are placed on the same shelf. All rush jobs due within 48 hours are placed directly on my desk rather than on the shelf.

As I am the whole production department at our business, I try to check all orders twice a day and line them up based on due date and time of day.
