Safety Precautions for Laser Operators: Smoke and carbon monoxide
Although lasers sold in the industry are safe, risk is always involved.

Anything that burns, gives off smoke, carbon monoxide, flames, or fumes requires special safety precautions – lasers are no different. Although lasers sold in the industry are safe, bad things can happen.
If your building does not have a smoke detection system and a fire alarm, add a smoke detector near your laser. Also add a carbon monoxide detector near it with a series of fire extinguishers throughout your shop. Place one about 10 feet from the laser. Do not place them right next to equipment as a fire in the equipment may make it difficult to access an extinguisher if it’s too close.
