Before you dive into the typography tools available in CorelDraw, first install your fonts. Every active font you have installed on your hard drive will open in CorelDraw as well as most other programs, which can be confusing. You can have 23,000 fonts sitting in your hard drive, but if only one of those fonts has been installed on your system, then only that font will be available in your programs. Since the release of Corel X8, there is an easy process of installing, uninstalling, and selecting fonts with its Font Management program; even before that, Bitstream Font Manager was packaged with the Corel Suite and did the same thing in a much more limited way. Windows and Mac, depending on the version, also have their own protocols for installing fonts.
